Social Media Campaigns For Home Based Business Can Increase Their SEO Rankings

SEO1 150x150 Social Media Campaigns For Home Based Business Can Increase Their SEO RankingsIt used to be that home based business websites had to be keyword optimised and have relevant and quality information to enable them to receive a high ranking from Google. This in turn brought more visitors to the websites. As long as there were exciting Freebies offered (that visitors were prepared to leave their name and email address to receive), more sales would occur.

However, search engines are now taking into consideration how active visitors are to websites and how long they stay on the sites. This enables search engines to judge the credibility and popularity of the site. One way they do this is by checking how active visitors are with social media.

It is one thing to know that you should be using social media to get your home based business website ranking higher, but it is quite another thing to know how to do this. First of all you need to have a website that you can maintain and is designed from the start to be search engine optimised. Most websites designed by a graphic designer do not do this.  The result is often a great looking website that is easy to navigate, but has very little effective SEO. If you have such a website, what you need is another website designed specifically for the search engines.

Before you scream “I cannot afford this!” let me assure you that you probably can, as you can use free software or low cost software to build another website. If you do decide to take this action, it will take time, but then it always takes time to get new customers….that is what business is all about. One thing is for sure, the time taken to build another website would probably be far less than trying to fix your existing site and it will be more effective.

A new home based business website should not just be a copy of the first one, but needs to add value to the first one. The new site should also link visitors to the old site, thus giving visitors a ‘double whammy’ of relevant and valuable information. It is most likely that your first site, once completed, did not have regularly added new information. It is the regularity of additional information that search engines are looking for.

If you decide not to build another website, there is another way that you can add the information without changing the set up of your original site. That is, add a blog with the same URL.

For example, http://www.homebasedbusinessaustralia.org/ is the website and the blog is www.HomeBasedBusinessAustralia.org/blog By adding your regular information to your blog the search engines see that it is part of your website and ranks you accordingly.

If you do not use social media, now might be a good time to set up at least a Twitter account and a Facebook Account. But once you have these accounts, you must then attach links to them from your website. For example you can have a Twitter ‘follow me’ button but you must also have a ‘tweet me’ button attached to each article. If you have a footer on your website you can add the ‘tweet me’ button there so that it automatically sends a different piece of information to Twitter for each individual article (page of information) once it is clicked on.

You need to use software such as Hootsuite to automatically send information (that you write and place in Hootsuite), into all of your social media accounts e.g. Facebook and Twitter. This saves you an enormous amount of time, as you are only writing the information once.

Other software such as Feedburner will automatically send information from your regular articles on your website and/or blog to your social media accounts. To use Feedburner you have to open a Google account. Feedburner works through RSS feeds. If you are using WordPress, the RSS feeds are automatically included, however in other web software, you will have to ensure that you have RSS feeds installed.

When people click on your ‘Tweet me’ button, the URL of the page they are looking at when they click on the button, is shown in their Twitter account. Depending on how your URL is set up with ‘page title’ or ‘page name’, the text that is published will vary. Some will be very short (page title), others will include the Heading of your article/content (page name). WordPress automatically does the page name/heading which often makes more sense and therefore captures the attention of the readers.

A link to where the information came from is included in the Twitter account. Twitter will also automatically change your long URL to a shorter version. For you to get the best from the automatic links, it is also necessary to have your heading and your page title include the keyword that is featured in your article.

its good to be able to spread your articles to your various sites with as much ease as this but care must be taken not to be putting too much duplicate content around. we know google likes original content and this always helps give you an edge. however these methods can be great for spreading your latest info to a large crowd across various platforms quickly.
